Maps and Geo-Coordinate Systems

Developed for the US Department of Defense, Maps and Geo-Coordinate Systems is a collection of seven self-paced lessons that are designed to explain key concepts about maps and geo-coordinate systems. It provides an in-depth look at important information typically found on standard military topographic maps. It also examines three commonly used grid reference systems used for generating coordinates and locating points on a map. Each lesson includes activities and exercises to check for comprehension of key concepts and provide opportunities for basic skill application.

To create Maps and Geo-Coordinate Systems, the NFLC converted content from an existing platform-delivered course into rich-media standalone learning objects (lessons) that allow a globally dispersed work force just-in-time access through a state-of-the-art learning management system.
