The NFLC abhors the structural racism and racial violence that have led to the killing of George Floyd and so many others. As an organization whose mission statement is helping people understand each other and the world around them, we understand our responsibility to foster mutual understanding through linguistic and intercultural competence, based on a firm foundation in antiracist words and actions. We strive every day to ensure that language teachers and learners see, honor, respect, understand, and celebrate the beautiful and unique differences among the peoples of the world.
Black Lives Matter. We affirm that the NFLC stands in solidarity with the Black community and other marginalized communities today and every day, and commits to using our voices and actions to create a more just and equitable society. Echoing the words of the recent University System of Maryland statement, the NFLC is committed to standing up, speaking out, and fighting against racism and injustice of any kind.
